William Thomas Smith, 97 passed away June 29, 2015. Born March 1, 1918 in Los Angeles, California to Frank James Smith and Mary Catherine Montgomery. He married Cleo Marie Cox July 20, 1943 in Oakland, California.
He retired from Chevron Refinery in El Segundo, California in 1976 and he and his wife Cleo moved to Ashland in 1977. Residing there for 38 years.
William served his country during World War II and the Korean War, retiring from the Army Reserves as a Major. He was one of the founding members of the Ashland Early Bird Lions Club and an active member of Ashland Elks Lodge #944.
Besides his wife Cleo, William is survived by 1 son, Marc (Leanne) Smith of Grants Pass; 4 daughters, Marie (Bryan) Fulbright, Melissa Maddox, May (Larry) Widener of Ashland and Memory (Lonny) Harris of Eagle Point. Also 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held 9:00 - 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 6, 2015 at Memory Gardens Chapel, followed by private graveside service.
