Bruce Sundrud was born in East Ely, Nevada, on January 1, 1946, to Norris K. Sundrud and Lillian R. Sundrud. He grew up at the Club 50, a restaurant and tavern combination run by his parents, on a lonely road between Ely and McGill, Nevada.
He attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, graduating with a bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree in biology. While in college, he met Renee L. Fletcher and fell in love. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 29, 1966. They had three sons: Nolan, Blaine, and Tyler. Soon after, they moved to Harrisburg, PA, where Bruce spent the next 43 years teaching Environmental Science and Anatomy and Physiology at Harrisburg Area Community College. After he retired, he and Renee moved to Central Point, Oregon, where they built beautiful gardens together.
Bruce was a storyteller, and the adventures that he shared through his stories – both written and experienced – will live on through his children, 14 grandchildren, and 14 greatgrandchildren. He published 18 science fiction books.
Bruce died on Sunday, August 10, at age 79. In addition to his wife and three sons, he is survived by his sister, Karen Johnston. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 3:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, located at 2305 Taylor Road, Central Point, OR 97502. A viewing will be held at 2:00 p.m., immediately before the funeral service. If you wish to send flowers, they can be sent to Memory Gardens Memorial Park at 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, OR 97501.
