Ralph R. Weiss

Dr. Ralph R. Weiss, 94, of Medford, Oregon passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday July 15, 2015.
Ralph was born in Ahmeek, Michigan on November 11, 1920 to John and Anna Weiss. Ralph was married to his beloved wife, Genevieve, for 64 years who preceded him in death.
Dr. Weiss received a Doctor of Divinity from Wayne University in 1938. He received his first Naturopathic degree from the Lust School of Naturopathy in 1940. His second Naturopathic degree came in 1942 from the Collin's school at the American College of Naturopathy. He then received an additional degree from the McFadden School in 1943. He graduated from the National College of Drugless Physicians in 1949 with a PhD in drugless medicine, a Doctor of Chiropractic and a degree in physiotherapy. Education was always important to Dr. Weiss. He was always reading and searching for better treatments for his patients. He and his wife made numerous trips to Germany and he was one of the first western physicians allowed to visit China.
In 1949 Dr. Weiss moved to Oregon where he began his private practice in Medford, which he maintained until 2002. He was certified in naturopathy, acupuncture, kinesiology, homeopathy, craniopathy, and hypnosis. Dr. Weiss served on the State Board of Naturopathic Examiners for many years and was instrumental in defining the profession of naturopathic medicine in Oregon . When not practicing medicine or lecturing at various medical conventions, you would find him practicing or working on one of his many classical guitars or enjoying the fishing at Lake of the Woods.
Dr. Weiss loved his patients and his patients loved him. With his vast knowledge and insight, he was able to treat the underlying cause of his patient's ailments. When he finally retired in 2003, he left a void that was difficult to fill. Ralph and Genevieve spent their winters in Arizona and their summers in Medford and Lake of the Woods.
In 2013, The Reluctant Healer, written by Dr. Steven Bailey, described his life and the contributions that he made to naturopathic medicine.
Survivors include daughter Diane Weiss Jensen and husband Dale of Medford, Oregon; daughter Carolan Weiss Edens, husband Doug, and grandchildren Allen of Spokane, Washington and Amanda of Salt Lake City, Utah.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park & Mortuary, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, OR 97501.
