Norma Jane Carlton (Ward)

January 3, 1932 — May 7, 2014

Norma was born in Willard, N.M. January 3, 1932, in the midst of a blizzard, to Verna Ward and Zelma Zolo Ward and passed away suddenly Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Norma spent her early childhood in New Mexico. She relocated to Oregon and graduated from Medford High School in 1950. She worked briefly at a local bank and on February 28, 1952, she married Thomas A. Carlton who passed away November 8, 2008. Norma and Tom were married for 56 years.

Norma stayed at home raising her four children and then caring for several grandchildren while also running the family business, Carlton Fuel Company. She was an avid bowler for many years and an amazing, remarkable, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, caregiver, and friend. She was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her sister, Madeline Parsons of Milwaukie, Ore.; her four children, Nancy Scarbrough (Stewart) of Hammond, Ore., Tom Carlton (DeAnn) of Eagle Point, Ore., Mark Carlton (Bev) of Medford, Ore., and Jayne Ferretto (Dave) of Sparks, Nev.; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Phoebe. Norma was preceded in death by her two sisters; two brothers; and grandchildren, Tyler Carlton and Stacey Scarbrough.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Memory Gardens Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park. www.memorygardensmortuary.com
