Lavonne Cassman Thompson, 90, passed away July 29, 2016. Her daughter and son were beside her when she took her last breath here on earth and took her first breath with the Lord in Heaven. Lavonne was born April 2, 1926 in Milbank, South Dakota to Harvey and Nettie Cassman.
In the 1930s, Lavonne's family moved to Central Point, Oregon. She first worked as a waitress and later packed pears with her mother. She became a cook at Crater High School and was head cook at Mae Richardson Elementary when she retired in 1980.
She married Wayne Thompson October 20, 1950 who adopted her daughters, Donna and Gloria. In November 1951 she gave birth to their son, Bill. For 58 years, the family enjoyed camping and traveling. After retirement, Lavonne and Wayne enjoyed fishing in Brookings in the summer and spending the winters traveling.
Lavonne leaves behind a daughter, Donna (Chuck) Hanson; a son, Bill of Alaska; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Gloria; her sisters, Adalene and Wanda Faye; and her twin brothers, Lawrence and Loren.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2016 at Memory Gardens Mortuary, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to Providence Home Health and Hospice, Medford or Spectrum Prosthetics and Orthotics, Medford.
