Karl Robert Rickabaugh

Karl Robert Rickabaugh, of Medford, Oregon passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 10, 2014 and is now eternally home and present with the Lord. Karl was 75 years old and is survived by his wife, Devon Rickabaugh; son, Keegan Rickabaugh; and sister, Barbara McCormack (Rickabaugh). His family and friends rejoice with him even as they miss his daily insight, helping hand and joy in the Lord. As a husband, father, brother, and friend, Karl will be remembered as being caring and dedicated to his family, his work, his friends, and his life pursuits while wholeheartedly serving his Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was born in Eugene, Oregon, August 15, 1938 to Robert and Alfreda Rickabaugh. He was one of two children. Karl pursued a road of academia and excelled greatly. He taught in Klamath Falls, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; Ellensburg, WA; and Tacoma, WA, eventually retiring as a full professor in psychology from Pacific Lutheran University. While teaching at Central Washington University, in the mid-seventies, he met his loving bride, Devon Fleming. They married on September 14, 1974 and spent almost forty amazing years loving and caring for one another.
During Karl's lifetime he was an avid mountain climber, hunter, fisherman, horticulturist, beekeeper, runner, educator, and a student of the Bible. As he once said, There is no limit to what I can learn or teach, and as long as there is something beyond my grasp that I am striving for, this means that I am at my best. Throughout his life, he always sought to do his best. I believe in a God who is really there; it was this personal faith in Jesus Christ that allowed Karl to find his satisfaction in Him whatever life held.
There will be a private family memorial service followed by an open house to celebrate God's goodness through Karl's life at the Rickabaugh home on Saturday, June 14, 2014 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at Deschutes Memorial, Bend, OR, on Monday July 7, 2014 at 11:00 AM.
In honor of Karl, donations may be made to Grace Christian Schools with a designation for student scholarships or to the Nicaragua mission fund.
