Joyce Yvonne Stout was born on September 19, 1941 and passed on July 24, 2021 from a stroke. She had lived in Grants Pass, Oregon for the past 17 years, and had become very active in her community.
Prior to her retirement move to Grants Pass, Joyce earned a B.A. in English from Hayes State University. After graduation she served as an officer in the Women’s Army Corp and enjoyed a tour in Heidelberg, Germany, After she left the Army she settled in Southern California, she was very active in the Order of The Eastern Star and in her church in Anaheim.
After her move to Grants Pass, she took the H&R Block tax course, worked seasonally as a licensed tax preparer, and did volunteer work with the AARP tax assistance program. At the time of her death, Joyce was Secretary-Treasurer for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grant’s Pass, having held that position for some ten years, she had also participated in two separate chapters of the Order of The Eastern Star in Grants Pass: Josephine 26 OES, and Rogue River Daylight Chapter #186 OES. She progressed through the officers’ chairs of both Chapters simultaneously during the past seven years, dedicating herself to the projects and issues sponsored by both Chapters, In addition, but by far not least, Joyce was a wine enthusiast who enjoyed visiting the many vineyards in the Southern Oregon area with the other members of her group and with visiting friends.
A memorial service will be held for Joyce on August 12, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 8654 NW 5th Street, Grants Pass, Oregon 97526, telephone 541-476-2565.
