Jewel A. Hanlin, 87, passed away peacefully at Rogue Regional Medical Center surrounded by her family on June 28, 2014. She was loved beyond measure by her family. She is now in the arms of the Heavenly Father.
Jewel was one of twelve children. She was born to Woodson and Clara Jones on January 8, 1927 in Dallas, Ore.
Jewel moved with her family to Medford in 1946, during World War ll. Like many women during war time, Jewel served at Camp White, working in the military office.
Jewel married Warren Hanlin in 1949, they later divorced. Jewel is survived by three children, Brenda Spakousky (Jerry),of Roseburg, Ore., Rodney Hanlin (Joyce) Medford, and Julie Hale (Gordon), of Medford; seven grandchildren; Andrea Spakousky, Brian Spakousky (Heather), Jeremy Hanlin, Justin Hanlin, Jeff Hale (Kristin), Jason Hanlin (Danielle) and Andy Hale (Brooke); seven great-grandchildren, one brother, Efton Jones (Kaytie) of Medford and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Hanlin.
Jewel was a devoted mother and her family was the most important aspect of her life. She was extremely thoughtful and enjoyed celebrating birthdays and holidays. She enjoyed decorating, fashion, cooking and entertaining family and friends. Jewel always opened her home up to others. She was very hospitable. Jewel worked for Harry and David in quality control and retired from there after over 30 years.
She will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6th at at Memory Gardens, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, Ore. 97501, Rev. Kevin Gowland officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or First Church of the Nazarene, Missions.
