Mary "Jane" Elwood

April 10, 1927 - November 18, 2016

Jane Elwood, 89, of Central Point, Ore. passed away peacefully November 18, 2016. Jane was born April 10, 1927 to Chester and Gertrude Howe in Oceanside, Calif., the middle child of seven. Losing her mother at an early age, Jane learned responsibility and self reliance. After graduating high school she worked in a machine shop to support the war effort. In 1948 Jane married her sweetheart, Hershel "Woody" Elwood. The couple enjoyed 42 years of marriage. Woody passed away in 1990.

Jane and Woody were the proud parents of one boy and two girls. Jane thoroughly enjoyed being a homemaker and involved with the children's events and activities. She was a professional cake decorator and delighted everyone with beautiful, edible works of art for every occasion. She was a proficient seamstress and kept the family in fashionable attire. The family moved to the Rogue Valley in 1967 where she embraced country life. She enjoyed nature walks, hiking, hunting, fishing, rock hounding, mining, and rose gardening. Traversing the roadways of America including Alaska and the infamous Route 66 were a favorite interest. Jane was multi-talented and enjoyed many hobbies. She was an accomplished artist and crafter extraordinaire. Jane was a member of the Central Point Wood Carving Club, Gold Hill Historical Society, and the Southern Oregon Miniaturists.

Jane always approached life with a positive attitude, a touch of humor, and a spiritual faith in a higher power. She loved life, family, and her many friends. She will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

She is survived by her three children, Patrick Elwood, Debra Elwood, and Susan Whipple; her sister, Darleen Dubie; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
