Jack David Johnson (Papa Jack) passed Saturday February 4 2012 with family at his side. One of nine children, Jack was born March 27 1933 in Red Oak, Iowa to Einar and Carin Johnson.
In 1939, the Johnson family headed west and after a brief spell in Coronado, California they settled in Medford where Jack lived his whole life. All the Johnson brothers were athletic but Jack was especially fond of basketball. Almost as much as his love of big band music.
In 1949 he began his career as a logger with his brother John and later his brothers Lloyd and Lambert. Jack was a gypo logger and known to anyone and everyone who was in the business. Jack landed major contracts with Weyerhauser, KOGAP, and Della Lumber. He spent his life in the woods and cared about it greatly.
On December 7, 1951 Jack married the first of three wives, Martha Taylor and they had two sons. On May 20, 1960 Jack married Loraine Hood and they had a daughter and raised a step-daughter. Finally, Jack married Patricia Irving on May 15, 1974 and they raised a step-son.
Jack loved animals and they loved him. He was the original animal whisperer. The more animals the better. Chickens, goats , pigs, dogs and everything else owe their lives to his kind hand.
Survivors include his first wife Martha Taylor and son Jerry Johnson. His second wife Loraine Hood, daughter Jennifer Johnson and step-daughter Debbie Rice. He is also survived by his step-son Scott Irving and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia, son Ron and granddaughter Alexa.
