Eli John Weaver, 51, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, in Medford, Oregon, due to health-related issues. He had traveled to Oregon to spend meaningful time with his family, and his final days were filled with love and support from those closest to him.
Born on May 25, 1974, in New Mexico, Eli was the beloved son of Marie Hurley (Grindell) and Ike Weaver. From a young age, Eli possessed an incredible curiosity about the world and a natural talent for mastering whatever he set his mind to.
Eli was also an athlete from a very young age. He loved both playing and watching sports, especially soccer, which remained a lifelong passion. Growing up, he wrestled, played high school football, and continued to enjoy various sports as an adult. Whether on the field or cheering from the sidelines, Eli brought enthusiasm, dedication, and heart to every athletic pursuit.
He enjoyed a long and dedicated career in research, working for Dr. Vance Lemmon at Case Western Reserve University and later at the University of Miami. His commitment to scientific advancement was matched only by his dedication to helping others. His skills were endless—whether renovating his and Cassie’s home in under a year while commuting between Fort Myers and Miami, or showing up for neighbors in need during Florida hurricanes, going door to door to make sure everyone was safe and prepared.
A lifelong learner, Eli had a passion for knowledge, staying current on world events and maintaining a deep love for history. He was truly a jack of all trades: if something sparked his interest, he became an expert with ease. His natural ability and determination made him exceptional in everything he embraced.
Eli is survived by his loving wife, Cassandra (Cassie) Furst; his mother, Marie Hurley (Grindell) and stepfather, Dennis Hurley; his father, Ike Weaver, and stepmother, Kathy Weaver; his brother, Daniel Weaver, and Daniel’s wife, Kimberly Walker Weaver; his sisters, Aimee Weaver and her partner; and many extended family members who loved him deeply.
Eli will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, humor, and unwavering loyalty to those he loved. His presence made the world brighter, and his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.
A celebration of Eli’s life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to come together to honor his memory and the beautiful impact he had on so many.
