Ada Ruth Curty was born at home on July 31, 1937, to her parents, Albert Ernest and Mary Jane Ebersole. Although the family lived in Joetown, IA, her birth certificate lists the larger nearby town of Kalona, IA. She and younger sister, Betty (Cox), moved often and arrived in California in 1943 where her brother, Bob, was born. Ada graduated from Chino High School with the Class of `55. She met her future husband of 67 years, Charles David Curty, while active in the youth group at Pomona First Church of the Nazarene. Because of their ages, she 17 and he 20, they had to have written permission from their parents to marry on June 26, 1955.
Ada and Charles began their lives together in Pomona, CA, raising three sons, John, Ron, and Jim, until the beauty of Oregon moved them to Phoenix, OR, in 1973 for the next 46 years. During her lifetime she was a hard-working mother and housewife. Her talents were sewing clothing, even making suits for her boys, quilting, cross stitch, and knitting. Her hands were always busy and generous. Each high school graduate who attended Ashland Church of the Nazarene received an afghan that she knitted. She did a lot of cooking, especially for 3 boys, plus canning all the fruits and vegetables they raised in their large garden. During the harvest season, she sorted pears for Associated Fruit Co.
What brought her joy was being able to read to her grandchildren, Emily (Huard) & Jonathan Curty, and being involved in their lives as they grew up. She had a soft spot in her heart for dogs and enjoyed having several of them. But the preeminent aspect of her life was her devotion, trust, and love for Jesus, who she accepted as a child. She let that love flow freely to all she encountered.
The family cannot express enough gratitude for the love and care shown to them from Providence Hospice Care and the staff of Skylark Assisted Living where she resided with Charles for the past 2 ½ years.
Her memorial service will be at the Ashland GracePoint Church of the Nazarene, 1760 E. Main St., Ashland, OR, on Saturday, August 13, at 10:30 A.M.
