November 16, 1939 - June 26, 2008
Ignacio R. "Stosh" Diaz Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friend, Ignacio R. Diaz, passed away Thursday June 26th at his home. "Stosh" was born in Riverside, Calif. on November 16, 1939 to Ignacio Silva Diaz and Maria Jesus Duran. The youngest of 14 children, He was raised in a local family-owned grocery store. On November 14, 1963 in Riverside, Calif., he married Carolyn Irene Hoyt, formerly of Grants Pass, Ore. Now a Garbage Man for Charles Sears, Stosh and Carolyn proceeded to have two children; Robert Ignacio in 1965 and Kristina Carolyn in 1967. In 1973 they gave up everything to leave Southern California and moved the family to Foots Creek Road in Gold Hill, Ore. in a little pink trailer in the woods. His chosen career as a mobile home contractor started in downtown Gold Hill at Briggs Trucking. He partnered for many years with his good friend, Bob Seth, moving and setting up mobile homes with their company B & S Mobile Home Service. As his knees wore out from crawling under those mobiles, he then settled into just piloting as "Stosh's Pilot Service" with Barb and Les Washburn for JL&W Mobile towing. That "Crazy Mexican with the Yellow Dodge Truck", as he was known, was recognized all over the Rogue Valley even though they may not have known his name. "Poppa", as his grand kids knew him, loved any kind of racing, and enjoyed any kind of mechanic work. His pride in life was building anything, be it a drag race car, a motor home, or a deck, for the least amount of money possible. He found great pleasure in telling anyone how little he spent to have what others paid "way too much for". His other great pleasure in life was any kind of gambling. Slot machines, poker machines, Texas hold'em, or "scratch its", he loved it all. Playing on "other people's money" was his continuous goal in life. The family is proud to announce that he went out a winner when he hit a $40 scratch it ticket the day before he passed. It will be framed. He is the husband of Carolyn; Father to Robert I. Diaz of Medford, and Kristina "Sis" Barton-Diaz of Central Point; Grandfather to Devin Barton-Diaz, Lorenzo Diaz, Haley Diaz, Dalton "Stinky" Barton-Diaz, and Rachel Diaz; Brother to Barney Diaz of Riverside Calif., and Vera Wissienger of The Woodlands, Texas. A celebration of his life will begin on Wednesday at 1pm at Harvest Time Fellowship, 345 N. 2nd Avenue in Downtown Gold Hill and will continue at his home on Foots Creek. As always with the Diaz home, all are welcome.
